"The clinical training at UF is I believe the best of the best."
The clinical training at UF is I believe the best of the best. We get to train with some of the best people in the country in their discipline. We also have access to very unique disciplines that other people would otherwise not get exposed to like deep brain stimulation or olympic-level sports medicine. We get such a diversity of clinical training that some of my current colleagues did not get exposure to. For example, all in two years we get to work a psychiatric hospital, a rehabilitation hospital, a level 1 trauma center, multiple specialized ICUs, and even rural primary care. This exposure helps me understand the breadth of the system and how I need to develop my research to work within this complex system. This also helps me with my patients as I can better manage my patients when I understand all the services I might need to refer them to.

"The UF MD/PhD program has always been my home."
The UF MD/PhD program has always been my home. As a student who had no prior connections to Florida, the faculty in the directorate have served as my mentors in life, learning, and serving my community. When I was struggling to adjust to medical school, Dr. Fredenburg took the time to take me out for coffee and listen to my problems. When I was having a tough time with the logistics of transitioning to graduate school, Dr. Segal was quick to reply to every email and check up on me personally during monthly meetings. This program does not just care about who you are as a scientist, but as a person first, and that has always allowed me to feel deeply connected to the community of both UF and Gainesville at large.
