Clinical Research Practicum

Our MD-PhD scholars have the unique educational opportunity to experience a hypothesis-driven experimental investigation in a clinical setting first hand.

The benefit of the practicum is an early integration of hands-on, patient oriented research. While their fellow first year students go into their preceptorship, working with physicians around the state of Florida in primary care communities, MD-PhD scholars are engaged in the creation and design of a study which will be ongoing over a period of time. Along with this process, they are immersed in interactive sessions with faculty on areas such as Biostatistics, Nutrition, Investigational Drug Service and Databases and Clinical Trial Management. Upon completion of the practicum, scholars will develop a better understanding of the dynamic interplay/interaction between research and practice and its impact on technology and patient care.
